Noise. In the office,
sound-enhancing features (two-ear headsets, high quality insulating ear
cushions, versatile ear tip configurations) on a headset give the volume
and clarity needed.
Background Noise. To reduce the
background noise that callers hear, a headset with noise-canceling (NC)
features does the trick.
Phone Hours. Comfort is the key.
A headset should be light and if worn regularly, should have a quick
disconnect to allow it to remain on your head. If less frequent use
means removing the headset fairly often, consider an ear bud style which
quickly slips out of the ear.
Integrated Headset and Phone
Options. An ideal option for a small office or home office environment.
Look for features such as volume control, mute, headset/handset switch,
and "plug and play" setup.
Select Adapter Plugs. Determine the style of plug needed to connect with
your existing phone: plug prong adapter (most common to operator
consoles and PBXs); modular adapter (for most phones except handset
dialer styles); RJ11 plug (connects to computer modem); dual 3.5mm plugs
(attach to speaker and microphone ports of a computer, sound card, or
modem board).
